License Types

nFringe has been released with a dual end-user license: a Commercial license, available from the Pixel Mine online store, and a 100% free strictly non-commercial license, which can be used by the Unreal modding community, hobbyists, students and institutions of higher learning. View the NFringe Project License Agreement.

Commercial License
For studios commercially licensing the UnrealEngine3 for upcoming games, nFringe seamlessly integrates with the daily workflow. Little “extras” such as Goto Native Definition for ‘native’ script functions are included to help tie together the mixed C /UnrealScript sources. Advanced users can also benefit from running the game for mixed-mode debugging, where both C and UnrealScript may be simultaneously debugged.

Indie License
Indie Licensing includes all the great features of the commercial license, but is intended for studios or developers without outside funding. To qualify for an Indie License you must be an Independent Developer with no (or limited) Publisher or Studio backing. Please Contact Us to verify your eligibility!

Non-Commercial License
For non-commercial users, we built on the free Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Shell (Integrated mode). Even users that don’t already own Visual Studio can benefit from its familiar, fast, and highly customizable environment, complete with support for macros and add-ins. Every scripting feature listed above is fully supported in the free version. In addition, we have included a UnrealScript project system that adds support for building packages and editing configuration and localization files, without the overhead of constantly sorting through the game directory structure. The project system also includes several Project and Project Item templates to quickly create a new Mutator or Kismet Action (among several others).

Hello, we are a privately held indie developer company and we have private funding, we are not connected to any big publisher or other studio, we have a license for Unreal Engine 3, does that qualify us for the indie license? Thank you!

Hi. I love your product. I’m still teaching myself UnrealScript and I’m really enjoying it. I will be thrilled to buy a commercial license from you some day and start selling the things that I build. But for now I’m trying to use nFringe on my laptop while I’m on the road, and I’m also running into the “could not activate nFringe” error. I know I’m not a paying customer yet, but I’d really like it if you could help me out with that. Thanks. And happy Thanksgiving.

Hi, I am developing a UE3 non-commercial project. After installing nfringe and when activating for a non-commercial license, the license manager says “Could not activate nFringe”. What should I do? We have 3 engineers on the project, do we need to have a non-commercial license for each person?
